Brown University Financial and Operations Coordinator in Providence, Rhode Island

Job Description:

This exempt position provides high level administrative support primarily in the areas of financial processes, grant administration and visitor appointments. The position serves as a fiscal liaison to faculty, students, visitors, sub- awardees and funding agencies providing guidance (and resolution) for day-to-day financial transactions in accordance with Brown University policies and sponsor regulations. Responsibilities include oversight of numerous operational accounts, as well as projections, expenditure processing, reconciliation, and closeouts of grants. The incumbent supervises two administrative coordinators and student employees, and assists with myriad day-to-day operational needs. Additional responsibilities include (but are not limited to) timely completion of annual and semi-annual effort certifications and the biennial space survey. The Financial and Operations Coordinator acts on behalf of the Executive Officer in his/her absence, and is knowledgeable in a broad scope of significant and confidential matters.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and two to three years of related experience or the equivalent combination of experience and education required. Experience in a university setting preferred.

  • Accounting background a plus! Must be detailed oriented and possess mathematical analytical thinking skills.

  • Familiarity with federal grant regulations preferred, including but not limited to OMB Uniform Guidance and agency specific guidelines.

  • Possess initiative and judgement; independently problem solve and prioritize.

  • Exceptional organizational, administrative, and time management skills.

  • Ability to delegate effectively and co-ordinate work of others, especially during times of impending deadlines.

  • Must be confident and genuine in interpersonal communications; eager to assist all faculty, graduate students and visitors.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills applicable at all levels.

  • Ability to handle confidential matters with extreme discretion and tact.

  • Highly proficient Excel skills preferred.

  • COEUS experience a plus.

  • Ability to understand and navigate the Workday interface and willingness to upgrade technical skills as required.
